Become a volunteer

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD). The following information is being provided to help you understand the basic requirements of becoming a first responder in our organization. Several web site addresses are also included to help you obtain additional information and / or training if needed. You must be at least 18 years of age at the time you submit your application for membership for consideration. All applicants are required to complete the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) courses IS-100 (ICS 100), IS-200, IS-700 (NIMS), and IS-800. These courses can be taken on-line at http://training.fema.gov/is/crslist.aspx. All applicants must also have a CPR / AED for infant, child, and adult certification. Copies of these certificates of successful completion must be attached to the completed application.

We currently review applications for membership three times per year. The deadlines for submitting completed applications are January 1, May 1, and September 1 each year. Applications received on or before 5:00 PM (local time) of the dates above will be reviewed and acted upon during the WVFD business meeting in the following month (for example, in the February meeting for the January deadline). WVFD business meetings are normally held on the first Monday of each month in the evening. Applications received after the deadline will be held for the next cycle which is approximately four (4) months later. Qualified applicants who submit a completed application package on-time will be interviewed by the applicant screening committee prior to any action at the WVFD business meeting. All interviews will be in-person. The application is available below.
